While a personal profile on Facebook can only go so much in terms of grabbing attention, a Facebook fan page could do much more than just that. It is nice to have a business profile on Facebook but a fan page takes this to a whole new level thanks to the many options and flexibility than a normal profile. This article would cover some of the major aspects in Facebook fan page design majorly the structure and design, and shall not include any information on Facebook ads.
The FIRST major step is in properly NAMING YOUR FAN PAGE. The following ground rules apply here:
Try to keep the name as simple as you can. By saying this, it is not meant that you have a very short and precise name which could be big bore in one way. But it is meant that the name of the fan page should in more ways than one, be able to convey the message on the utility of your fan page or on the product/service you are endorsing.
Names could be long or short. Longer names are a good idea to attract more hits as it can be a source for a larger number of keywords.
Now that the naming part is dealt with, the next step is to INCLUDE A LARGER FANPAGE PROFILE PICTURE. Few simple things to remember:
You could extend the pictures upto 600 px high and 200 px wide. It is always desirable to use the limits on the profile picture to the fullest extent as it is a source in attracting better visibility for your fan page.
The picture could be an eye catchy one, pertaining to your product or service and make use of the limits very well. Add the name of the product/service you wish to endorse on the picture and it is generally not desired to include contact details on them.
Now we move over into the part where we add the Static FBML App:
Static FBML is the standard norm applied for creating custom tabs. It is a simple means to add almost any HTML/CSS code into your fan page and stick it on a tab in your fan page.
The next major aspect is to use the tabs carefully. A better list of tabs enhances the site navigation and hence greater coverage of topics is achieved. And the same applies to the sidebar too.
Next we get to the level of Posting. The ground rule like all social networking platforms is to post as much as you can so that the page starts featuring on the news feeds and it gives an impression that you are on board. Posts could be anything related to the product or service that you wish to endorse in the form of announcements, questions, views, polls, ANYTHING. Posting once in a few weeks would not serve the purpose; the key is to do it atleast once or twice a day so that it spreads more and more into the feeds. The more the number of posts, the better.
Linking the page from literally every other source is a means to attract more users towards your page. It could be from the links on your blog, on your website, on the newsletter, on the e-mails and the like.
Email your friends and acquaintances on the latest fan page of yours, the activities and the events taking place with an invitation to join in the proceedings.
Send updates to your fans and use them in a wise and effective manner so that they are not bombarded with your messages all the time. Also visit similar pages on facebook, like them and interact on them to attract potential customers.
