What Does Social Chatter Tell Us About the Final Four?
March 30, 2016 Dinah Alobeid
March is a brilliant month, if for no other reason than playing host to the NCAA basketball tournament, otherwise known as March Madness. The past two days saw a critical round of the tournament in the Elite 8.
By now, we all know who won each game on the hardwood, but did those results permeate each team’s online conversation? We’ve pitted each team against their rightful, real-life opponent to see if social mirrors reality.
Elite 8 – Saturday Night
Kansas – over 14,000 mentions
Villanova – over 15,000
Oregon – over 10,000 mentions
Oklahoma – over 9,000 mentions
Elite 8 – Sunday Night
North Carolina – over 13,000 mentions
Notre Dame – over 7,000 mentions
Winner: North Carolina
Virginia – over 10,000 mentions
Syracuse – over 24,000 mentions
If we were to look at the overall winner from the Elite 8, it would be Syracuse with 18% of all team mentions. It is followed then by North Carolina with 15% and Villanova with 14%.
We’ll have to get through this week to see what the Final Four and championship have in store for us.
