March is a brilliant month, if for no other reason than playing host to the NCAA basketball tournament, otherwise known as March Madness. The past two days saw a critical round of the tournament in the Elite 8.

By now, we all know who won each game on the hardwood, but did those results permeate each team’s online conversation? We’ve pitted each team against their rightful, real-life opponent to see if social mirrors reality.

Elite 8 – Saturday Night

Kansas – over 14,000 mentions

Villanova – over 15,000

Oklahoma – over 9,000 mentions

Syracuse – over 24,000 mentions

Winner: Syracuse

If we were to look at the overall winner from the Elite 8, it would be Syracuse with 18% of all team mentions. It is followed then by North Carolina with 15% and Villanova with 14%.
